Get to know our organist, Susie Cook!
When did you start working at POPC?
Bill Whitwer interviewed me around 1987. Jerry Norman was choir director at that time.
When did you start playing piano/organ?
My first piano lessons were the summer before entering first grade at Kosciusko Elementary. The teacher was our pastor’s wife. She actually approached my mother with the offer of piano lessons.
From earliest times I was drawn to church music, spending times ‘practicing’ on the top of a trunk at my grandmother’s house. When I was in 9th grade,I took advantage of an offer by the Minister of Music for an introduction to the organ. My first organ book was “You too Can Play the Organ”. The Lord instilled in me a desire to develop His gift and even now I feel that it’s is a miracle’ whenever I’m at the organ. My prayer is that He “play” me.
What are some of your hobbies? I enjoy knitting and cross stitch. It was a joy to be a piano teacher following my retirement from a career with Rehab Services.
Fun fact? I was in the Inquirer’s class with Newell and Sweyn.
